Bathroom Renovations in Calgary

Bathrooms are small rooms with a lot going on: water, ventilation, electrical, tile and fixtures all in a tight footprint. The parts you don't see (waterproofing and ventilation) decide how well it holds up.

TrustBuilt Canada renovates bathrooms of every size, from a powder-room refresh to a full ensuite rebuild, with attention to the details behind the finish.

Scope of work

What a bathroom renovation involves

  1. 01

    Planning the layout

We confirm fixture locations, storage, lighting and accessibility needs, and check what's behind the walls before finalising scope.

  2. 02

    Demolition & substrate

Old finishes are removed down to a sound base. Damaged subfloor or framing found during demolition is discussed with you before repair.

  3. 03

    Waterproofing & ventilation

Wet areas receive a waterproofing system suited to the tile and shower design, and the exhaust fan is sized and vented to remove moisture properly.

  4. 04

    Tile, fixtures & finishing

Tile, vanity, fixtures, glass, accessories and paint are installed and finished cleanly, with fixtures connected by the appropriate trades.

Waterproofing goes on before any tile, including around the niche and down to the shower floor.

Getting a bathroom right

Waterproofing is not optional

Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own. A proper membrane system behind and under the tile is what protects the structure.

Ventilation matters in winter

Long Calgary winters mean windows stay closed. An exhaust fan that's correctly sized and vented outside is the main defence against condensation and mould.

Hidden conditions

Older bathrooms sometimes hide water damage. We'll explain how unexpected conditions are handled and priced before work begins.

Selections drive the schedule

Choosing tile, fixtures and vanities before demolition prevents delays mid-project.

A clear path from first call to final walkthrough

Every project follows the same five stages, so you always know what's happening now and what comes next.
  1. 01

    Initial Consultation

A conversation about your goals, the space, your timeline and a realistic budget range. If it's a fit, we arrange a site visit.

  2. 02

    Project Assessment

We look at the space in person (existing conditions, structure, mechanical and anything that affects scope) and take the measurements we need.

  3. 03

    Proposal & Planning

You receive a written proposal with scope, exclusions, schedule and pricing. Selections, permits and trade sequencing are settled before work starts.

  4. 04

    Construction

Work proceeds to the agreed plan, with a protected, tidy site and regular updates. Any change to scope or cost is discussed and approved before it happens.

  5. 05

    Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished project with you, address any items on the list, and hand over the information you need for the space.

Questions

Bathroom Renovations: common questions

Don't see your question? Ask us directly.

Do bathroom renovations in Calgary need a permit?

Replacing finishes and fixtures in the same location often doesn't. Moving plumbing, adding circuits or changing structure typically does. We'll confirm what your project requires.

Can you convert my tub into a walk-in shower?

Usually, yes. The drain location, floor structure and waterproofing approach determine the details. We assess these before quoting.

Can you add a bathroom to my basement?

Often. It depends on where the existing plumbing lines are and whether the drain can reach the main stack by gravity or needs a pump. We can assess this as part of a basement project.

What affects the cost of a bathroom renovation?

Size, plumbing changes, tile coverage and complexity, shower glass and fixture selections are the main drivers. Your proposal lays the scope out line by line.

How long will my bathroom be out of service?

That depends on the scope, tile work and curing times for waterproofing and grout. We'll give you a realistic schedule in the proposal and plan around a second bathroom if you have one.

Do you offer bathroom renovations outside Calgary?

Calgary is our primary service area. We also consider bathrooms projects in surrounding communities, and larger projects further from the city case by case. See our service areas page for details.
